Board Game Interface Survey

Board Game Interface Survey

As a graphic designer, a board game designer, and a board game reviewer, I’ve been thinking a lot about how board game interfaces work lately. I’ve also been thinking about how they ought to work. There are so many ways our interfaces are inconsistent, contradictory and downright impossible to decipher. Sure, we can keep memorizing every interface element in every game, or we could come up with a design language that’s consistent between games. And I’m all for the latter.

I don’t want to dive into specifics here, not quite yet (and you know I want to dive into specifics), but let’s say I have a ton of ideas.

But ideas are only worth so much when they’re in your head. So I’m gathering some data through a survey to see how many of my ideas are supported or not. To that end, I’m conducting a survey, about some board game interface ideas. Whatever I find, I’m going to write about.

If I get a reasonable response to this one, I’ll keep designing more of them, so I can keep writing about more interface ideas.

Without further ado, here is the link to the survey. I’d really appreciate you filling it out.

Thanks so much! If you’d like to see the final article about the survey results, subscribe to my email list, or join my Discord Channel.
